Watercolor
Workshop
HOW IT WORKS:
- This workshop is
designed for artists who are actively painting (not beginners), and
who do not need instruction on how to paint. It is a project based
learning module designed to push you out of your comfort zone and into
doing subjects and projects that you would not normally do yourself.
It is hoped that by doing that we grow and discover our skills and
expand our horizons.
WEEKLY PROJECTS:
- Every Sunday,
starting Sunday the 29th of October, I will be sending you a link to
the week's webpage. The link will contain the subject of the week
(usually a photo) along with some thoughts and directions to the
week's project focus.
- During the week, you can send
me your thoughts before/during/after you have worked on the painting.
This is not a requirement, but it is an important element in
understanding how you work and may give others insight into your
thought process and help us all learn.
- Please make sure you have
finished the painting by the following Sunday. Please send it to me by email
directly and not to the group. I will expect the paintings to be sent
to me by email as a .JPG file. The file should be 600 pixels in width
and I am ok with the size of file since we have plenty of space on the
website and a healthy email as well. Please do not send scans or
photos that are smaller than 600 pixels in width. There is very little
detail in such pictures and we can't really see your work to critique
it.
- As before, on Sunday November
5, I will send you the link for week 2 and so on.
- I will post the paintings and
thoughts by Wednesdays to the week's webpage. You are expected, but
not required to participate in the critique. If you decide to
critique, please do so before Sunday (4 days), and I will include the
critiques on the webpage below the paintings. ((More on critiques
later))
- If you expect to be late in
sending your painting, please let me know ahead of time. If your work
is very late, and I have already finished and uploaded the webpage, I
may not have the time to place it and/or others may not have the time
to view it and critique it. Please please please be on time with this.
It is very important.
EMAILS
- Because we all receive
tons of emails, please use the following convention so that we don't
lose any of the emails in the mix. Please start your subject line with
"2-Workshop" as I have with this email. Logically when
working on the first week, we should have a subject line that starts
with "2-Workshop wk1" An example of a full subject line
would be "2-Workshop wk2 first thoughts"
- If you want to address the
whole group in your emails, please click on the "reply to
all" button. If you only wish to email me you can do so directly,
or by clicking on the "reply" button.
-Sometimes emails get delivered
to a "junk box" by mistake. Please check your junk box
regularly just in case that happens. If for some reason you have not
received an email from me on say a Sunday, email me and I will re-send
it.
PAYMENT
- I want to thank you
all for agreeing to the $10 fee/donation. It is much appreciated. If
you have a Paypal account please send the $10 to [barrage@sympatico.ca].

- Again Thank you. The sooner
you can send this, the sooner we will be able to make a check to UNICEF. Please don't delay.
CRITIQUE
- Critiques are an
important learning element in a group setting. We all listen/read and
absorb and learn from them when they are thoughtful and constructive.
As artists, we are all sensitive people, but we need to understand
that to grow and become better, we need to know what we are doing that
can be improved and how. When we all work on the same subject we see
the interpretations that our fellow artists have taken and we see
their statements and style in them. We also see where they and we have
weaknesses and where we can do better. A good critique is a balance
between an assessment of strengths (detailed and well expressed) and
weaknesses (detailed and well expressed). We all can use uplifting
comments and we should get them, but we could also use constructive
and thoughtful assessments of our work. I am hoping we can do that
here.
